Imports by Sea

Goods originating in the European Union are not considered imports. They are considered goods moving between EU territories, so they do not pay customs duties / tarrifs.

Incoming goods and maritime container customs clearance shipments from non-EU countries (China, USA, UK, Turkey) are considered imports.

If you are importing goods or products from a non European country, it is very probable that you will need to complete a customs clearance declaration (SAD) for the importation of goods and containers, regardless of whether you are a company or an individual, and whether the goods are traveling by sea, land or air.

We list here the documents required to present an import clearance to the customs authorities:

Annex #1 – Only when the value of the imported goods exceeds €20,000 (euros).

Annex #2 – depending on the means of transport:

Sea Bill of Lading (B/L)

2. FIATA Bill of Lading

3. Road consignment note (CMR)

4. Railway waybill (CIM)

Annex #3 – Only when the commercial invoice does not include the insurance data for the merchandise.

Annex #4 – Single Administrative Document (SAD) for finalising the import customs clearance declaration, according to REGULATION (EU) No 952/2013 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND THE COUNCIL dated 9 October 2013 laying down the Customs Code of the Union (CCC).
